And others were saying, `` He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old. ``Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there, shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them." And He was going around the villages teaching.Īnd He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits Īnd He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff-no bread, no bag, no money in their belt-īut to wear sandals and He added, ``Do not put on two tunics."Īnd He said to them, ``Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town. Jesus said to them, ``A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and among his own relatives and in his own household."Īnd He could do no miracle there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them.Īnd He wondered at their unbelief. ``Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? Are not His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. ![]() When the Sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue and the many listeners were astonished, saying, ``Where did this man get these things, and what is this wisdom given to Him, and such miracles as these performed by His hands? Jesus went out from there and came into His hometown and His disciples followed Him. ``Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent,īecause He has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead." ``Being then the children of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and thought of man. That they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us įor in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, `For we also are His children.' Nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things Īnd He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, ``The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands However, today’s reading demonstrates the magnitude of God’s power and care, and we can watch with joyful expectancy for whatever He chooses to bring about. ![]() But if our request isn’t granted or timing doesn’t match ours, we might incorrectly conclude He’s inactive. For instance, we readily acknowledge the Lord’s intervention and rejoice when it occurs on our behalf. Then we can better appreciate all that He is working to accomplish in, through, and for us. But when we regularly communicate with our Father and spend time pondering His Word, we will see things more clearly. Without periods of meditation and prayer, our spiritual senses become dull. The demands of a busy schedule sometimes leave little room for quiet moments in God’s presence. Imagine how greatly we’ll be blessed if we can increase our awareness of how God is orchestrating all things for our good (Rom. Either way, He is always accomplishing something, whether we perceive it or not. For example, the air in our lungs is provided by Him daily. And at other times, what He does is inconspicuous. At times God’s work is dramatically obvious-as when He parted the Red Sea to deliver His people from slavery in Egypt. ![]()
